It's about freaking time Sony finally supports MPEG-TS streams with audio. I've been using my PlayStation 3 for about the past 4 months to play HD content captured via MythTV. I was forced like many others to convert these MPEG-TS streams to the MPEG-PS format. While the conversion is close to loss less it always bugged me that I had to tamper with the original stream. MPEG-PS streams could also not be fast forwarded quicker than 1.5x before crashing.
Here are the fixes between MPEG-TS/PS with Firmware Version 2.50:
MPEG-TS
- Allows Audio in Stream
- Multiple Audio Streams can now be selected
MPEG-PS
- Multiple Audio Streams can now be selected
- Fast Forward quicker than 1.5x
- Resumes playback from last viewed position
Long story short the PS3 can now properly play any show I capture via my HD tuner attached to my MythTV box. I can finally stop paying that 15$ a month fee for the Comcast HDTV DVR rental ;-).
